Creating a converting website is a key skill for coaches and service providers. Let’s explore some common website mistakes and simple solutions to gain more interested clients.
-
Mistake: Getting a Website TOO EARLY!
If you have not gotten any clients or sales yet in your business, take some time to learn what problems your audience would pay you to help them with BEFORE planning out your website. You don’t want to get an entire website made “guessing” when it comes to your messaging and offer. Before getting a website, you can create a basic info page in a Google Doc or Canva.com to share with people who may be interested in working with you. Aim to sell the offer at least once with just a PDF document & no website yet just to get proof of concept that the offer itself is wanted by your ideal clients.
-
Mistake: Using your language instead of your ideal clients’.
Communicate on your website in a way that resonates with your target audience’s urgent pain points and dream outcomes they would pay money to solve! Get a feel for what your target audience wants to feel, experience, and solve by talking with them in market research interviews or looking at forums where they’d be asking questions.
-
Mistake: Missing a call to action button and catchy headline at the top of your site, before needing to scroll down.
Ensure you include an enticing headline and a visible call to action right away at the top of your site. Make that call to action button pop! You have 3 seconds for a viewer of your site to understand how you can help them. Be intentional about that.
-
Mistake: Vague or Complex Writing Use straightforward, tangible language to convey your message effectively.
Rather than saying general benefits to market your offer, get specific & tangible.
- What are measurable improvements your clients can experience?
- How will they feel?
- What will they be able to know, do, and experience?
- What’s the ROI of the benefits of your program or service?
-
Mistake: Lacking urgency when it comes to your Call to Action
Clearly state reasons why someone should reach out to you NOW as opposed to delaying. This could be related to an “act now” discount, early bird bonus, or you can reinforce the urgency of the challenge or goal your audience wants to solve & why it’s important to solve at this time in their life.
-
Mistake: Not having a clear differentiator
Highlight what sets your offer apart from the competition. Does your offer have a guarantee, a special system or framework, remove certain inconveniences others in your field don’t? Aim to communicate why someone will succeed with YOUR offer, as opposed to past failed attempts.
-
Mistake: Lack of Communication Diversity
The viewers who come to your site will all learn & take in information differently. Some people like to watch a video instead of reading text, and vice versa. Make your sales page accommodating to different preferences.
Don’t neglect using visuals, written content, or video. Variety is a good thing!
-
Mistake: Insufficient Social Proof
Don’t forget to include testimonials related to your offer or call to action on your site.
You can do this by sharing case studies, screen shot testimonials, written testimonials, or video testimonials from your clients or test clients.
-
Mistake: Small Font Usage, Or Hard-To-Read Font Styles
Opt for a readable font size to enhance user experience. Don’t go crazy with more than 3 fonts on your website: a header font, body font, and accent font if desired.
-
Mistake: Absence of Clear Structure
Organize your website content with clear headlines to guide readers. Cue readers about what’s being covered in each section of your page.
Here is an example for a Sales Page Structure:
- Catchy Headline with Above-the-Fold Call to Action
- Benefits of Your Offer
- Testimonials
- Repeat Call to Action
- What’s Included
- Why Now and Differentiator
- Another Call to Action
- About You Section – Share Your Story and Credentials
- FAQs
- Final Call to Action
11. Mistake: Lengthy Paragraphs
Break down paragraphs for easier readability. You can even bold certain keywords you want to stand out, or use bullet points to prevent using long-form writing throughout the whole page.
