Mindful Goals Anytime of the Year
Are you ready to set up next year’s goals and make next year the most amazing business year ever and completely change your life? I think I hear that a million times just before the new year and even for months after, and honestly it drives me completely crazy.
Don’t get me wrong—I’ve fallen into the hype like everyone else, but I can’t think of one single time all that hype actually made my business amazing or life changing. Instead, it made me more feel like I was in a pressure cooker and had to compete with hundreds of other people at the same time. Results never lasted long and too often I felt like I failed, leaving the rest of the year unproductive. This is not healthy for me and not usually healthy for most entrepreneurs. So, I began to be mindful about my goal rituals throughout the year that made me feel good, created long-lasting change and a successful business I am proud of.
First, I set Me, Myself & I goals.
When you’re setting up goals for your business, let’s face it—you are usually not thinking about your own needs, but rather the needs of your customers, your partners, your team and some people you don’t even know yet.
Don’t get me wrong, all those people are important (even those imaginary ones) but if you don’t know what you actually want, then your business can start to be designed by everyone else and you will quickly notice you’re not changing the world the way you wanted.
To fix this, start goal setting where it all began in your business. With what you want to create. You will quickly see where you’re going and how you can change the world.
Create Mini Goals
Mini goals are flexible and can be small daily or weekly goals that are simple and easy to achieve.
Entrepreneurs have a lot of responsibilities and can easily be overwhelmed and distracted by setting large goals. Mini goals are not set up to completely replace your big goals, but they can create a feeling that you have accomplished something and that your business is growing and moving forward.
Celebrate everything as it happens
Immediately celebrate your accomplishments both small and large. So many of us get caught up in finishing a goal, a deadline or a project that we move on to the next without even being mindful of what we have achieved.
Treat yourself with something special. I like to do something for myself that I would not normally do just so it is an extra special reward.
When it’s a team accomplishment, make sure you include everyone in the celebration. Team celebrations can help with morale and inspire more great work.
Remember the Human Rule
Do the best you can and feel good about it.
We often believe that because we are the boss, we can and have to do everything ourselves. Sometimes we agonize over unfinished goals by avoiding them or thinking we lost our edge.
Truth is, we are human and we need to remember that. When working on any goal, do the best you can and at the end, finished or not, this human rule will put things quickly in perspective.
Now take time to see what goal rituals have worked for you in your business. Even try one of mine and let me know below how it worked for you.
Let’s make goal setting fun and productive anytime of the year!
